2026 MLK Jr. Day events start Friday

The celebration for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Observance begins Friday night in Liberty County and wraps up with Monday’s parade.

The Liberty County Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Association has chosen this year’s theme as “Promoting Unity as we Embrace the Dream.” The events begin Friday at 7 p.m. with Love-It Productions dramatic presentation at First Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Riceboro.

The annual leadership breakfast will be held Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the East End Complex’s John McIver Auditorium. The speaker will be Rev. Billy Graham McFadden, presiding elder of the Savannah District of the AME. A King musical will be performed Saturday at 6 p.m. at First Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Riceboro.

A commemorative worship service will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. at First Zion Missionary Baptist Church with St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church youth minister Dr. Leila Smith as the speaker.

The celebration parade will be held Monday morning beginning at 10 a.m. The staging area will be the Smith Education Center at 100 Knowledge Drive, with lineup beginning at 7 a.m.
