All 6 Hinesville races to be contested Nov. 7

Mike Alamo turned in his qualifying paperwork just before the deadline Friday afternoon, meaning all five city council seats and the mayor’s seat will be contested this fall.

Karl Riles, the current District 5 council member, is relinquishing his seat to run for mayor. Also running for mayor is Liston Singletary III. Current Mayor Allen Brown is at the end of his second four-year term nd is prohibited from seeking another.

Three other incumbents are running to retain their posts and face opposition.

District 1 council member Diana Reid is running again and will be challenged by Marcello Page and Alan Anthony White.

Jason Floyd, the District 2 council member, also will run to retain his seat. He is being challenged by Robert Cunningham.

District 3 council member Vicky Nelson will be challenged by Arthur Nixon. District 4 council member Keith Jenkins did not qualify to run again. His seat will be contested between Alamo and Dexter Newby.

Four people qualified to run for Riles’ District 5 seat — Henry Covington, Eric Hollis, Jeff Nicholson Jr. and Jose Ortiz.

Early voting will be held October 16-November 3, Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. each day at the Historic Liberty County Courthouse. In-person voting will be conducted November 7 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Charles Shuman Recreation Center. Qualifying fees were $720 for mayor and $360 for a council member seat.
