Arrest made in Saturday Briar Bay shooting

Liberty County Sheriff's deputies work the scene of a fatal shooting Saturday in Briar Bay.

Authorities have made an arrest and are charging a Briar Bay man in connection with a fatal shooting Saturday.

Algernon Leron Stewart, 34, of Briar Bay, was booked Wednesday into the Liberty County Jail and charged with murder.

According to Liberty County Sheriff ’s Office Chief Deputy Al Hagan, a man, later identified as Quinton Blocker, was shot in killed at the intersection of Briar Bay and Barrington Ferry roads around 4 p.m. Deputies responded Saturday to a report of shots being fired at the pavilion, located near the intersection of Barrington Ferry and Briar Bay roads. Deputies found Blocker suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, and he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Other charges may be pending for Stewart, according to the LCSO.
