Bell honored for 2019 Rivers Alive
Bell award

Keep Liberty Beautiful Executive Director, Dr. Karen Bell received the Organizer of the Year Award for the State of Georgia for her work in the 2019 Rivers Alive Cleanup.

During the 2019 river cleanup, 25,219 volunteers cleaned over 1,294 miles of waterways. According to Harold Harbert, Outreach Manager with the Environmental Protection Division, the volunteers removed over 534,499 pounds of trash and garbage, including tires, plastic bottles, shopping carts, and refrigerators from Georgia’s waterways. Harbert expects Rivers Alive 2020 to involve thousands of volunteers even during COVID-19 and to continue to be the State’s and one of the South’s largest volunteer efforts to beautify water resources.

Supporters of the statewide campaign include Georgia Adopt-A-Stream and Project WET, programs of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection Division, Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, and Georgia Department of Community Affairs. Dozens of other local organizations will be sponsoring individual cleanups around the State.
