Downtown Hinesville will kick off the shopping season this Friday and Saturday when shops showcase their holiday merchandise during an open house. Stores will stay open until 7 p.m. Friday and will operate under normal business hours Saturday.
Shoppers can scope out the shops’ holiday decorations, music, refreshments and special offers.
This weekend’s open house is the first in a series of six open houses planned for the holiday shopping season by the Hinesville Downtown Development Authority and the Hinesville Downtown Partners.
“We realize that a majority of our customers would choose to keep their holiday shopping local, if the shops were opened a little later in the evening,” said HDDA Director Vicki Davis.
The first event is a little early in the season, but the coordinators wanted to give shoppers plenty of time.
“Most downtown holiday open houses are planned closer to or after Thanksgiving weekend,” Davis said. “We want to help our customers get their shopping lists together and learn what our local shops have to offer before they reach the larger market this year.”
This year’s holiday contest will feature an ornament scavenger hunt. Starting Friday, each participating business will have an ornament hidden in their store.
Customers who find the ornament will be entered to win a prize from that business. A grand prize winner will be drawn from all the entries collected by participating businesses between Nov. 6-Dec. 17. The drawing will be Dec. 18. There is no purchase required and entries are limited to one entry per person, per visit to each location.
Other upcoming downtown events:
• Nov. 30: Christmas in the Park.
• Dec. 33, 10 and 17: Holiday open houses, shops open until 7 p.m.
• Dec. 4: Chamber’s Illuminated Christmas Parade.
