The Heritage Bank, headquartered in Hinesville, will reach a milestone Tuesday when it turns 100 years old.

The bank opened for business Nov. 15, 1911, as The Hinesville Bank. Deposits on the first day totaled $1,907.44, and the first bank president was Mr. J.R. Ryon.

One of the bank’s first facilities was located inside what is now Zum Rosenhof Restaurant on Midway Street. The year 1911 numbering still can be seen at the top of the building.

Branch expansion began in 1968 with an office on Fort Stewart, and the growth has continued. After several moves throughout downtown, the Hinesville main office of the bank today is on South Main Street, and the downtown campus features four facilities, including the historic Coca Cola bottling plant.

Today, The Heritage Bank operates 32 offices and 48 ATMs in 15 counties in Southeast Georgia and has more than $900 million in assets.
