UPDATE: According to Izola's Facebook Page the restaurant is once again open for business as of 11 a.m. today.

If you’re hankering for some crispy fried chicken from Izola’s Country Cafe you might have to wait a few days to satisfy your craving.

According to Hinesville Fire Department Public Information Officer Robert Kitchings the popular local diner sustained minor damages from an electrical fire Wednesday.

“An electrical outlet above the cooking area…it shorted out and created a small fire,” Kitchings said noting they got the fire call at 11:16 a.m. He said the first unit arrived at 11: 20 a.m.

Kitchings added restaurant manager Glenn Poole used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire in quick fashion minimizing damage to the restaurant.

“More or less they are closed down until they can get an electrician in there and get everything squared away for them,” Kitchings said.

The fire was contained to the kitchen and did not affect adjacent businesses of the strip mall.
