The Long County Library was the host site for the Long County Chamber of Commerce’s latest Business After Hours event July 14.

Library manager Tammy Goober welcomed about 30 leaders from the community and told them about the library.  She said the number of library users is at an all-time high. According to projections, more than 24,000 visitors will use the library’s services this year.

Goober said though the library’s primary service is loaning out books, users also can check out audio books, magazines and videos.

She said many people in the community still do not have computers or Internet service, which the library has available.

Goober also told the group the library offers special activities.

For example, it recently had a summer reading program with guest readers coming to the library every week.

She said more than 250 people registered for the promotion, and that when the fire department visited, more than 100 children took part in the event.

She said this year’s program was very successful, and she appreciated all of the volunteers who helped.

Woodmen of the World field representative Cindy Butler also informed the group of a planned 9/11 celebration. She said the event is in the planning stages, but that as soon as she has more confirmed information, she will promote it further in Ludowici and Long County.

Chamber President Ray Howard told guests that upcoming events include the Wildlife Festival on Oct. 10 and a guest speaker from Kinder Morgan on Oct. 13 at Compass Worship Center.
