IGA Supermarket in Midway hosted a grand-opening ceremony Oct. 8 in conjunction with the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce.
Manager and owner Jim Woods, along with staff members, welcomed state and city elected officials, chamber staff, board members, ambassadors, members and people from the community to the event.
“The key to changing this economic state is to spend money, so all those who just came to check out the event … please buy something,” Rep. Al Williams, D-Midway, said with a laugh. He commended IGA Supermarket’s contribution to the surrounding community and growth of Midway.
“We welcome you to the chamber,” Membership Director Kirsten Pratt said. “We are here for you and support your growing business.”
Approximately 200 customers were lined up outside the doors in anticipation of the grand opening. The first 100 customers received $15 gift cards to use toward groceries.
“This project would not have been possible without the support of my family and the city of Midway,” Woods said.
He went on to thank the community for its continued support of the local IGA throughout the renovation process.
The event culminated with a blessing of the store by Johnny Williams.
The supermarket is at 192 Butler Ave. in Midway.
