After 21 years in business and a “comfort food” favorite for generations of local residents, Poole’s Deli closed its doors Thursday afternoon. The culinary landmark began as a family-owned grocery store in 1973 then turned into a family-owned restaurant. Owner Susan McCorkle compares closing the business to losing members of her family but said she had to accept the reality that her operating expenses were too great to stay in business.
