BEAUFORT-GREENWOOD, S.C. — CenturyTel has named Durand Standard general manager for South Carolina and Georgia.
CenturyTel and Embarq recently completed a merger, which was announced earlier this year. The company will begin operating with the brand name CenturyLink later this year.
Standard will have responsibility for the direction and performance of the combined company throughout South Carolina and Georgia as well as management of local customer support and growth opportunities.
Standard, a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology, began his telecom career in 1987 with Coastal Communications, where he worked in human resources management and operations. He also managed Georgia’s Coastal Communications operations under ownership of Madison River Communications. Most recently he was general manager of CenturyTel’s Georgia Operations.
“Our priority as a new company is to serve our local customers by understanding their needs, delivering product and service innovation and preparing for the future,” Standard said. “I’m so pleased to be leading these efforts in South Carolina and Georgia.”
Standard and his wife Carla have been married for 22 years. They have two children, Brandon, 16, and Brooke, 13. They live in Hinesville.
Embarq and CenturyTel completed their merger on July 1. The combined company has an operating presence in 33 states, and approximately 7.5 million access lines, 2.1 million broadband customers and approximately 440,000 video subscribers as of March 31.
