Area couples who want to put some spice in their relationship will have to travel to Savannah for those special ingredients. Sunset Novelties, an adult products retailer, remains closed due to what its operators describe as “legal issues” with the city of Hinesville.
City Manager Bill Edwards said there are state laws and city ordinances regulating businesses like Sunset Novelties, but he did not say whether the store’s operations were at odds with any particular ordinance. “We have not told them to close their doors,” Edwards said. “They have done that on their own.”
A small notice on the door said the store was planning to reopen Sept. 1, but the adult novelty retailer was not open for business Tuesday. The notice also says customers can receive 25 percent off their purchases in Savannah.
A message left for the store’s owner was not returned, and a clerk at the Savannah location said the Hinesville shop will stay closed until the issue is resolved.
