The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce Foundation (LCCOCF) was awarded a $75,000 grant from the Howmet Aerospace Foundation on-March 10.

The funding was provided to support the Liberty County Literacy Project, as initiated by the LCCOCF. This grant will support literacy initiatives by providing four book vending machines to local schools, ensuring students have greater access to books and fostering a lifelong love of reading. The book vending machines will be placed in select Liberty County schools, allowing students to “purchase” books using special tokens earned through positive behavior, academic achievements and other incentives. This initiative encourages reading engagement, supports literacy development and creates excitement around books.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Howmet Aerospace Foundation for their commitment to education and literacy in our community. This will have a lasting impact on children in our community by making books more accessible and promoting a culture of reading in our schools,” said Leah Poole, president and CEO of the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce.
