Starting Aug. 29, readers in the outermost corners of the Coastal Courier’s distribution area, to include Ludowci, Long County and the east end of the county, will receive their bi-weekly newspapers through the U.S. Postal Service. 

Like many small newspapers across the nation, the Courier faces challenges that include increases in print costs. 

To address these concerns, company executives reevaluated the paper’s distribution and delivery methods and decided to discontinue carrier delivery in the community’s rural neighborhoods. 

The first phase was implemented two weeks ago. This is the second and final phase. 

Many hometown newspapers have been dependent on the postal service for delivery for numerous years. The Courier’s sister paper, the Bryan County News, delivers its newspapers to subscribers through the mail.

These readers will get their newspapers on the same day they always have; the only difference being their papers will be sitting dry in their mailboxes rather than in their driveways.
