Church creates ‘Weeping Time’ monument
Members of the racial justice ministry of the Diocese of Georgia stand beside a monument dedicated to the “Weeping Time,” when in 1859, 429 enslaved people were sold in one of the single largest slave auctions in United States history. The monument was constructed by St. Cyprian’s, Darien, and stands on the site of a former school near the church. Photo courtesy of Clara Rowley- Stewart
