Hinesville City Council members agreed to annex 4 acres into the city and to approve the rezoning for a total of 8.67 acres.
They also may be bringing back a rezoning request that had been denied a previous meeting.
In their action February 20, council members approved rezoning the nearly nine-acre tract from AR-1 and planned unit development to attached residential for a townhome development. Plans call to build as many as 54 townhomes.
The tract is along West 15th Street and some of it is in the Independence PUD, placing it within the city limits, Liberty Consolidated Planning Commission executive director Jeff Ricketson said.
As part of the conditions approved by the LCPC, and agreed to by council members, a privacy fence along Lauran Drive will be established by the developers.
Council members also agreed 5-0 to reconsider a rezoning vote on 15.3 acres off Ellie Lane. A motion to approve the rezoning request failed, as three council members voted against it and two voted in favor.
Ordinarily, rezoning requests that are turned down have to wait six months before bring back before a governing body.
City attorney Linnie Darden told council members, upon Council member Diana Reid’s question, that they could bring the vote back for reconsideration but would have to vote to bring the issue back before the council.
The council’s vote to reconsider likely puts the issue back on the agenda for their March 6 meeting.
