City extends emergency declaration

Hinesville City Council voted Thursday during a called meeting to extend the city's COVID-19 state of public health emergency to May 13. That's the day the state's public health emergency is set to end.

The council met by teleconference. The meeting lasted five minutes and was streamed on the city's Facebook page.

First Preparatory Christian Academy celebrated 50 years as a school and honored its longtime faculty and staff. What started as a preschool, kindergarten and elementary school added middle and high school grades in 2006. That year, school leaders also broke ground on the main building on Court Street, adjacent to the church. The first senior class graduated in 2009.
