Closures being announced ahead of Elsa
City Readies for Tropical Storm Elsa
hurricane florence

The City of Hinesville's Emergency Management Team is working with local partners including the Liberty County Emergency Management Agency (LMEA) to closely monitor the current weather situation. Tropical Storm Elsa is expected to move through Hinesville this evening and into tomorrow, July 8. The main threat from this system is heavy rainfall and high winds, which could cause flash flooding, downed trees and power outages. Currently, Liberty County is under a Tropical Storm Warning.

Due to the projected impacts from Tropical Storm Elsa, City buildings and facilities will close today, July 7, at 2 p.m. City buildings and facilities will reopen tomorrow, July 8, for normal operations. With heavy winds projected, City solid waste customers are encouraged to keep their garbage containers near their dwellings, not leaving them near the road, tonight.

These objects, as well as other objects like outdoor furniture, bicycles and so on, could become airborne in the heavy winds. Normal solid waste pick-up should resume tomorrow, July 8, at 6 a.m. This evening, citizens are encouraged to avoid driving, staying off roads whenever possible.

Heavy rainfall and strong winds will make driving dangerous. Even after the storm passes, citizens should avoid unnecessary travel to allow first responders and road clearing crews to quickly respond to emergency needs. The City of Hinesville is continuously monitoring the ever-changing weather situation and will post updates to Facebook.com/HinesvilleGA. Tropical Storm updates and impacts can also be seen at Facebook.com/LibertyCounty.

As Tropical Storm Elsa approaches our area, several business and organizations have announced closures. Here is a list that we'll keep updating:
