Coastal Courier Publisher Dee McLelland has announced the “Sound Off” segment in the newspaper will no longer be published.

“The time and place for that part of the newspaper has certainly run its course,” McLelland said. “It has provided a certain amount of fun I’m sure, but it also allowed citizens to make and get published certain accusations without accepting responsibility. I would liken it to Facebook posts with no attribution. I think this is the responsible path for the Coastal Courier to take.”

All citizens are encouraged to submit letters to the editor to share their views on life in the community, but there will also be a standard set in place.

Each letter must contain, name, address and phone number which will be verified before being published.

All letters published will run in the editorial section of the Coastal Courier in the order they are received and verified.

“It’s extremely important that the newspaper provide residents with the ability to express their views,” McLelland added. “But, we, as a newspaper, have a duty to be responsible for the content.”

Letters to the Editor may be submitted by mail at Coastal Courier, 125 South Main Street, Hinesville, GA, 31313 or by email to editor@coastalcourier.com.
