First Hike Day Fort Morris State Historic Site, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

Admission: adults (18–61), $4.50; seniors (62+), $4; youth (6–17), $3; children (under 6), free. All rates are plus tax. Group rates available with advance notice. All across the country, park rangers are inviting Americans to start the New Year with an energizing First Day Hike. Join us at Fort Morris for a ranger-led (dressed in period clothing) hike at 10 a.m. and then again at 2 p.m. on New Year’s Day. Hikes will last 30 minutes to an hour. Feel free to wander on your own afterwards! Regular admission applies.

Fort McAllister State P ark Join us at 10:00am for a 3-mile nature hike with Ranger Lexi on a great Trail. This hike is medium difficulty and requires sturdy shoes and water. $5 parking. 912-727-2339.

Skidaway Island State P ark Let’s kick off 2022 with a 2 mile Geocache hike. We’ll begin at the Sandpiper Trailhead. Be sure to download the Geocaching app before the hike. This app will guide us to the Geocaches hidden along the trail. If you’d like, you can bring small items to leave in the Geocache boxes. $5 parking. 912598-2300.

Wormsloe Historic site Start the year off with Wormsloe and join us for a healthy 2.5-mile hike though the coastal maritime forest. A Wormsloe Ranger will lead the way and answer any questions that might arise. Pets welcome on 6 ft leash. Make sure to wear comfortable closed toe shoes and bring your own water and bug spray. Pre-registration is recommended. $4 - $12. 912-3533023. Hikes are at 10 a.m. until noon and 2-4 p.m.

Bring one for the Chipper Recycle your live Christmas trees on January 8, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hinesville Recycling Transfer Station on East Oglethorpe Highway (Highway 84) and Fraser Drive, across from McDonald’s.
