Courier welcomes Asha Gilbert to newsroom
Asha Gilbert

Reporter Asha Gilbert was welcomed to the Coastal Courier’s news room this week. Gilbert’s hiring completes the Courier’s news department. Asha is from Tucker, a suburb just outside of metropolitan Atlanta. She graduated from Savannah State University with a degree in mass communications and a concentration in online journalism. She has freelanced with Connect Savannah, the Savannah Morning News, and the Jasper Sun Times.

Asha is an avid superhero fan and has more than 500 original Marvel and DC comics passed down to her from her late mother. She is also an advocate for breast cancer research due to her mother losing the battle to the disease in 2016.

When she first chose the major of online journalism in college, she walked into her professor’s office and told her she was going to change the world through journalism.

“We are thrilled to welcome Asha to our team,” Courier General Manger Patty Leon said. “She comes with a wealth of experience and her energy and enthusiasm is contagious. She is up to the task of providing engaging and informative news stories and has already started on her first feature that will definitely be of interest to the readers in our community.”

“Asha has hit the ground running,” Editor Denise Etheridge said. “Her passion for storytelling and desire to make a difference in her community are a winning combination.”
