Crews will work on repairs to Liberty County High School’s cafeteria after an issue over the weekend.

The school system reports that there was structural movement on the cafeteria courtyard’s exterior façade Saturday. The movement shift was a serious concern, according to school system officials, and the schools’ insurance provider, an architect and a structural engineer were contacted immediately.

The architect and structural engineer arrived on site to conduct a thorough structural assessment of the issue. The design professionals recommended that the unstable façade area be removed.

Construction crews removed the area of concern Sunday morning. The architectural and engineering design team is developing a detailed repair plan and a design for a permanent fix is being rendered.

“The safety of all students and staff is our top priority,” said Superintendent Dr. Franklin Perry. “The ongoing repair at the front of the school will not impact normal school operations for students return to school.”

System officials said they were committed to completing the work promptly to ensure the building is restored effectively.
