Zoey Dates, 14, daughter of the late Rebecca Dates, died at 3:24 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Health University Medical Center, according to Liberty County Coroner Reginald Pierce.

Zoey Dates was a passenger in the vehicle her mother was driving when it was involved in a wreck late last month. The vehicle was struck from behind and propelled into oncoming traffic on Highway 17 in Midway. Rebecca Dates was pronounced dead at the scene. Zoey Dates was critically injured and remained in ICU after being transported to Memorial. Her sister and two brothers received minor injuries in the accident. They attended a Celebration of Life for their mother this past Thursday.

Dates' family friend Casey Nash, who is currently taking care of Zoey’s brothers and sister, said Zoey loved to draw. The teenager had a huge  heart and an incredible imagination, according to Nash. Zoey also loved anime, Nash said, and wanted to travel to Japan one day. Zoey participated in 4-H, and was a Liberty County Recreation Department cheerleader, according to Nash. The girl loved her family and her friends and she was never without her sketch pad or a book to read, Nash said of Zoey.

A viewing for Zoey Dates will be held at Dorchester Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 15,, from 5-7 p.m., according to Nash.

"Zoey’s yearbook with be displayed for anyone who wants to sign it with a message," she said.
