Dawson Farms out to round up some fun at annual rodeo
Dawson Farms

This isn’t their first rodeo. But they hope it’s the best so far.

Dawson Farms is hosting its third annual rodeo, with action and festivities set for Friday and Saturday nights.

It will be two nights of bull riding, barrel racing, calf roping and more as Julie Dawson of Dawson Farms promised “fun for all ages.”

Last year’s rodeo had to deal with Hurricane Helene, but the weather is expected to cooperate this weekend.

“When we first started, we wanted to make it a yearly event,” she said. “We tried to create something for everybody to do.”

There will be a boot giveaway each night. An extra tough pair of boots, for men and women, will be given away one night, and a pair of Ariat men’s and women’s boots will be given away. There also will be giveaways of dog food and horse feed.

Georgia Boot Company will have boot giveaways for kids each night.

“All my people come through,” Dawson said. “My vendors come through.”

Along with a beer tent for the 21 and over crowd, there also will be a variety of food offerings, courtesy of food trucks. They have built a silo for a bar area.

“There will be plenty of food trucks,” Dawson said. “So come hungry.”

There will be events for the kids too, including bounce houses and pony rides, and there will be a mechanical bull on hand for those who want to try their hand at riding a bull without getting the horns. Once again, Duck’s Pawn will sponsor the “diamond dash,” with participants finding the right envelope containing the diamond jewelry to return to the rodeo clown.

Coors is the gold level sponsor and presenting sponsors are Dawson’s General Store, Bootleggers Package and American Fence Company. Silver level sponsors are Coca-Cola Bottling, RTS Homes, Coldwell Banker Southern Coast, Hinesville Carpet and Renasant Bank.

Tickets are $15 before the event — and are available at dawsonfarmsludowici. com — or are $20 at the gate. Children age 5 and under are admitted free.

Gates open at 5:30 and action starts at 7:30 each night.

“We’ve been working very hard to get set up,” Dawson said. “It’s a complete family affair. We’re kicking off a lot earlier to get ourselves to be bigger and better. Hopefully, we’ve accomplished it. We couldn’t do it all without all our sponsors. Some kids have never seen a bull or a horse. At the end, it’s the smiles on the kids that’s worth it.”
