Delays expected along area interstates, roads

Interstate construction and maintenance projects in the area continue this weekend and next week and drivers should expect heavy traffic and some delays, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

All road work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are cautioned to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, pay attention and watch for workers.

Lane closures by county are scheduled as follows:

 

Bryan County: Black Creek Bridge rehabilitation along I-16 westbound between highways 280 and 119 (mileposts 139 to 138) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Friday.

 

Bryan and Liberty counties: Double lane closures along I-95 between mileposts 67 to 85 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

 

Chatham County: Lane closures for asphalt paving on Highway 204/Abercorn Avenue between Pine Grove Road and Veterans Parkway from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and from 9 a.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Also, double lane closures on I-95 between I-16 and milepost 112 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Hinesville man faces charges in alleged sweepstakes scam
scales
A federal grand jury in Connecticut has returned an indictment against a Hinesville man for running a sweepstakes scam. Marc H. Silverman, acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, and Ketty Larco-Ward, Inspector in Charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Boston Division, announced the indictment Wednesday against Jimmy Smith, 30. Smith, a native of Jamaica, is living in Hinesville.
