Deployment cuts holiday trash

The holiday season can sometimes become a time of excess and that excess sometimes turns into increased litter.
However, Liberty County Solid Waste Director David Sapp said this year has gone “exceptionally well,” because of “less folks being in town.”
Sapp still wants people to continue to keep an eye on the issue.
“We certainly encourage the recycling during the holidays,” Sapp said.
Because a lot of wrapping paper contains colored dyes and foils and is usually made from recycled paper, it can not be recycled.
The cardboard boxes that usually accumulate during the holidays can be recycled.
“That’s a good way to get rid of the bulk waste,” Sapp said.
Sapp said the cardboard boxes should be broken down and the Styrofoam removed.

Hinesville man faces charges in alleged sweepstakes scam
scales
A federal grand jury in Connecticut has returned an indictment against a Hinesville man for running a sweepstakes scam. Marc H. Silverman, acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, and Ketty Larco-Ward, Inspector in Charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Boston Division, announced the indictment Wednesday against Jimmy Smith, 30. Smith, a native of Jamaica, is living in Hinesville.
