Young and old turned out for the 7th annual Walk to Dorchester fundraiser Saturday morning. Hundreds of walkers, runners and four-wheel drivers participated in the event that traces the walk many African-Americans in Liberty County took to attend classes at the historic Dorchester Academy. The academy once served as the only schooling option for African-Americans in the county. Money raised from this year’s event will go toward installing protective covering over the windows and a 24-hour security system to hinder the recent vandalism that has taken place on the campus. See Wednesday’s Coastal Courier for more information.
