Officers pursued a driver, later identified as Christopher Kriltz, across two Counties when they noticed the vehicle had an expired tag on Monday Dec. 27. The car was spotted in Midway around 3 p.m. Midway Police and Liberty County Sheriff Department patrol cars gave chase which began in Liberty and ended in Bryan County.
According to Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Commander, Capt. Dennis Poulson, Midway Police Chief, Kelli Morningstar attempted to initiate a traffic stop. As Morningstar was attempting to stop the vehicle Kriltz began to flee on North Coastal Highway in the direction of Richmond Hill. As Morningstar and several of her officers continued to give chase, with speeds reaching 73 miles per hour, they were joined by Liberty County Sheriff’s Canine Deputy, Dean Coffman who took the lead. As the vehicles continued into Bryan County, Coffman used the PIT Maneuver (pursuit intervention technique) to stop the vehicle causing Coffman to land into a ditch causing minor damage to his cruiser. No injuries were reported and the Kriltz faces several charges.
