Early voting for November general election, DA primary to get underway
vote

Early voting in the November 3 general election will begin October 13.

Early voting will be held each weekday from October 13-30 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Early voting also may be conducted October 17 and 24, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on each of those days.

Registered voters can cast their ballots at either the voters registration office in Hinesville in the historic courthouse at 100 Main Street or at the Liberty County East End Complex, 9397 East Oglethorpe Highway in Midway.

Two Liberty County commission seats are being contested this fall. Larry Baker and Michael Cook are vying for the District 1 seat to replace Marion Stevens Sr. and incumbent Connie Thrift is running for the District 3 seat against Greg Lachowsky. District 2 Commissioner Justin Frasier does not have any opposition.

State Rep. Al Williams is running to return to the House District 168 seat against challenger Kevin Remillard, and incumbent Buddy Deloach is facing challenger Nathaniel Hicks Jr. for the District 167 seat.

In the state Senate, Dr. Ben Watson is running to return as the 1st District senator against challenger Corey Foreman.

Voters in the U.S. House 1st District will choose a new representative between Jim Kingston and Amanda Hollowell.

Across the state, voters will choose a new governor, a new lieutenant governor, a new attorney general and a new secretary of state.

Rick Jackson and Keisha Lance Bottoms are vying for the governor’s office, and Greg Dolezal and Josh McLaurin are running for the lieutenant governor’s post. Brian Strickland and Tanya Miller are running to be the next attorney general, and Tim Fleming and Penny Brown Reynolds are running to be the next secretary of state.

Five incumbents are seeking to keep their statewide seats. U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff is running against challenger Mike Collins for his seat on Capitol Hill. Tyler Harper, the current agriculture commissioner, is being challenged by Katherine E. Juhan-Arnold, and Insurance Commissioner John King faces a challenge from Keisha Sean Waites. Richard Woods, the current superintendent of schools for the state, is being challenged by Lydia Powell, and Labor Commissioner Barbara Rivera Holmes is being challenged by Nikki Porcher.

Because of Billy Joe Nelson’s appointment to the Atlantic Judicial Circuit Superior Court bench, a new Republican primary is being held for his old post as the Atlantic Judicial Circuit district attorney. Richy Braun, appointed to fill Nelson’s post, is running against former assistant district attorney Laurie Baio for the position.

That primary is being held in conjunction with the general election, and voters who wish to cast a ballot in that race must ask for a Republican primary ballot, along with the general election ballot. Asking for a Republican primary ballot will not affect how voters cast their ballots in the general election. If they do not wish to vote in the Republican primary for the DA’s race, they can ask for just a general election ballot.

The Atlantic Judicial Circuit includes Liberty, Long, Bryan, Evans, McIntosh and Tattnall counties.

Also on the general election ballot are two Public Service Commission seats.
