Frank Long Elementary’s annual chili cook-off was a spicy success.
The homemade chili of 13 contestants was savored one night at the school two months ago. Six judges rated them in five categories: taste, consistency, aroma, color and bite. Judges, with pen and spoon in hand, and contestants, with ladle in hand, took their roles seriously, while nearly 400 hungry people filled the cafeteria.
The kids were excited about coming together with family, teachers and friends to share food and fun. At $1 per ticket, they got a hotdog, drink, chips, dessert and three chili samples.
When the judges made their final decision, Frank Long Principal Scott Carrier announced the winners and gift certificates were presented.
First-place winner Windell Singleton sent out a challenge for all chili cookers for next year’s chili cook-off.
