Under a new state law, House Bill 251 Public School Choice, parents and guardians of students living in the Liberty County School District boundaries may request to transfer their children to another public school in the Liberty County School District for the upcoming 2009-10 school year.

Parent responsibilities
As a parent or guardian, you can request to have your child transferred to another public school within your school district of residence as long as the school district has determined that there is available classroom space at the school after all assigned students have been enrolled. Please keep in mind that if you choose to transfer your child to another school in the district, you must transport your child to and from the school as long as your child remains at that school and lives outside the attendance zone.
Any student transferring under this law will be subject to the eligibility requirements of the Georgia High School Association regarding athletics or other competitive events. Students will be ineligible to participate in athletics and other interscholastic activities for one calendar year from the date the student first enrolls in the school as a transfer student unless the student meets the eligibility requirements established by the Georgia High School Association. More information can be found at www.ghsa.net.
The following schools are available as a school of choice based on available classroom space for the 2009-10 school year:
Joseph Martin Elementary School
Liberty Elementary School
Lyman Hall Elementary School
Midway Middle School
In order to process your request, you will need to complete and submit a transfer request form to the Liberty County Board of Education for each child you wish to transfer. Forms may be picked up at the Liberty County Board of Education building at 200 Bradwell St. Requests for transfers must be received by or post marked no later than July 13.
In the event the number of transfer requests exceeds the remaining available capacity, transfer requests will be reviewed and approved or denied on the basis of a lottery. Once available classroom space is reached at a school, no more transfers will be accepted at that school.
