Four Liberty County teens were among 157 youth who graduated from the Georgia Youth Challenge Academy on Aug. 25 at the James Brown Arena in Macon.
Marcus Bearden, Bruce Coleman and Danny Perez of Hinesville and Alexander Carr of Fort Stewart, are members of the 2007 YCA graduation class of Fort Gordon.
Georgia’s Youth Challenge is a volunteer, 22-week residential program for Georgia youth who have dropped out of school.
The program emphasizes academics, physical fitness and character development. YCA graduates usually continue their education, join the military or return to their hometowns with a high school education.
The Georgia National Guard operates two Challenge campuses, the original one on Fort Stewart, which opened in 1993, and campus on Fort Gordon that opened in 2000. YCA has graduated more than 7,190 formerly “at-risk” youth.
