Governor vetoes broader tuition tax credit

ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue has vetoed a measure that would have broadened the state's new tuition tax credit program.

Supporters say the proposal was designed to allow more businesses to take advantage of a program that gives income tax credits to donors who contribute to scholarship programs for students to attend private schools.

But Perdue said Monday the changes would have reduced the amount of actual contributions available to students scholarship organizations each year.
