Scholarships
Two Liberty County High School graduates earned Joe Watkins Memorial Scholarships this year.
Meagan Folker and Jeremy Scott received the $1,000 scholarships, which are named for a 2011 LCHS graduate who died in a car wreck in the fall of that year while attending Georgia Southern University.
Folker is the daughter of John and Kim Folker of Hinesville and plans to attend Georgia State University in the fall. Scott is the son of Dan and Maarit Scott of Midway and plans to attend Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College in Tifton.
The scholarships are funded by donations and, primarily, an annual touch-football tournament that is organized by some of Watkins’ friends. So far, six $1,000 scholarships have been awarded.

Master's Degree
COLUMBUS, Ga. — Lloyd Slater from Hinesville graduated from Columbus State University with a master’s in public safety administration following the spring 2014 semester.
