Joseph Martin starts year with math night

The first week of the new Liberty County school year came to a close Aug. 12. Joseph Martin Elementary marked the occasion by hosting a family math night, which drew more than 50 parents and students.
Participants engaged in fun activities designed to help students master the Georgia Performance Standards in math.
Children in kindergarten through fifth grade and parents enjoyed working on math skills such as addition and subtraction, telling time, money concepts, problem solving and patterning.
Students used resources such as bingo, a Smartboard, computer games, Leap Frog and a Play Station to compete against their parents and each other.
School officials said JME students are off to a good start this year thanks to the help and support they are receiving from parents and school staff.
