The Liberty County Board of Education on Tuesday voted to consolidate Jordye Bacon Elementary School and rezone its students to the seven other elementary schools in the district.

In a separate motion, the board voted to relocate the Coastal Academy, an alternative school governed by First District RESA, to the campus, which likely will retain Jordye Bacon in its name. The plan would take effect in August 2013, and details will emerge as plans progress.

Deputy Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Conley said the system does not intend to lay off any employees as a result and will look toward filling vacancies with current staff and relocate others.
