With help from Liberty County School System faculty, a passion for reading also meant an academic competition, the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, for students.
Interested elementary and middle and high school students read selections from approved lists. Students in the fourth and fifth grade can qualify. Students also work as a team to create questions to review books and prepare for the bowl by scrimmaging.
The middle and high school student teams participated in the Liberty County Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl on Jan. 27 at the board of education office. Principals and parents attended to root for their school’s team.
