Thirteen Long County students recently competed in the Southeast District Project Achievement Competition in Bacon County.
Participants were Brandy Dossey, Sierra Fernandez, Maya Ellerbe, Allison Foster, Nikki Marine, Chantai Thomas, Iman Miles, Mary Cooper, Dakota Blanchard, Alex Adkins, Amanda Mayfield, Margaret Alexander and Becky Houston.
The club brought home three first place awards and five second places, and all who participated did well and represented Long County admirably, according to Long County 4-H assistant Lisa Overbey.
The competition was at the Cloverleaf Level, which are fifth and sixth graders.  This year’s event was at Bacon County Middle and High school and drew more than 350 participants from 14 counties.
The students’ projects involve choosing a topic, researching it and then making an outline.  They then put together the project itself, which includes a presentation with visual aids.
“All the hard work and dedication from these 4-Híers paid off and culminated into a day of fun, fellowship and competition,” Overbey said. “All of them are true winners.”
The Long 4-H Club’s Archery Team also competed in a District Match on March 15. Keith Cote and Linda Stephens placed third for individual scores in the recurve division, and the club’s Senior Team finished in third in the team compound shooting.
Senior team members are Josh Bush, Jonathon Makay, Kevin Oglesby, Austin Overbey and J.T. Mansfield.
The club will have a car wash on April 26 at The Heritage Bank’s Ludowici branch. Proceeds will help pay for the fees for competitions, lodging and travel.  The price to have a car washed will be any donation.
