At a specially called meeting April 25, the Long County Board of Education approved the 2011-12 calendar year, which includes 178 school days for students and six additional planning days for teachers.
Superintendent Dr. Robert Waters said the pre-K program will follow the same schedule for the upcoming year, but for the 2012-13 school year it will decrease its number of days to 160 for students and 169 for teachers to fall in line with new state guidelines.
The board also approved Pope Construction to manage the new high school.
At the board’s regularly scheduled April 14 meeting, School Food Nutrition Director Terri Godding recommended changing the cost of adult lunches to $2.75 for the upcoming year, a 17-percent increase. The current cost is $2.35 for each adult lunch.  She also recommended increasing the cost of student meals by 10 cents for the 2012-13 school year. The board did not take action on the matter.
Waters informed the board that soccer had been changed from a sectional sport to a regional sport. He said it was implemented by the Georgia High School Association and that information on the change would be presented to board members in May.
In other news, the board adopted:
• a resolution declaring the results of the ESPLOST election.
• the 2011-12 School Year Exemption of All Class Size Maximums Resolution.
• the revised capital outlay application.
