Long County graduates 106 seniors

LUDOWICI — Despite a rainout Friday night, the Long County High School 2009 Graduation Ceremony went off without a hitch Saturday morning.
The school had 106 graduates participate in the ceremony, with eight honor graduates.  The festivities began at 10 a.m. with the invocation by class secretary Brittany Burdette, followed by the pledge of allegiance led by class parliamentarian, Ricky Rivera.
Class president Heather Reddish welcomed everyone.  
“This is not the end, but the beginning of a new chapter in our lives…..to the teachers of LCHS, thank you for keeping our dreams alive,” she said.
Regarding dreams, she added, “Hold onto your dreams, and never let anyone take those dreams away from you.”
Heather Goober gave the salutation address.
“We led the way in many ways, including this graduating class making AYP two years in a row, and we always seemed to have the most parental support, of any of the classes.”
“We truly left our mark on Long County High School,” the salutatorian closed.
Valedictorian Desiree Chace told the guests of the class motto, “Don’t cry because it’s over, but smile because it happened.
“Our diploma is not an end, but a beginning, there are better things still ahead, than any we leave behind,” Chace said.
After she completed her address, LCHS Principal Dr. Delores Mallard presented the 2009 graduates, followed by Superintendent Dr. Robert Waters accepting the class.
Assistant Principal Scotty Hattaway, along with Mallard and Waters, then gave each senior their diploma.
Following the diploma presentations, the alma mater was sung by Chelsea Butcher, and then Simone Meekins gave the class farewell.
The benediction was given by class treasure Shareka Turner, followed by the graduates lining up to give thanks and hugs, to their former teachers.
The 2009 class song was “I Believe.” The flower was the white rose with blue tips And class colors were Columbia blue, silver and white.
Honor graduates were Ashley Blakeley, Tyler Chambless, Simone Meekins, Jessica Raymundo, Andrina Schwab, Shareka Turner, Goober and Chace.  The only Class Officer not mentioned above was, Vice-President, Jean Pierre Tavares.
