The Long County Library kicked off its summer reading program Monday. This year, the theme is “Every Hero Has a Story.”
The special program is open to kids of all ages, and activities include crafts, special visitors to the library, and story-time reading. There also are prizes and incentives awarded throughout the summer program.
The special guests who will take part in the activities include Curious Moon Puppets, Kyle Puttkammer of Galactic Quest Comics, the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, the Long County Sheriff’s Office, the Ludowici/Long County Fire Department, Excelsior Ambulance Service, the Georgia Forestry Commission and the Long County Board of Education. The program will wrap up July 22 with a grand celebration provided by Graceland Bounce Houses.
The library also is taking part in the Atlanta Braves/Subway Summer Reading Program. The Braves, along with Subway restaurants, have joined the Long County Library in promoting reading and literary skills. Kids who take part in the program can receive a free ticket to a Braves game and a free meal from Subway.
