LUDOWICI -- Smiley Elementary School faculty, staff and students recently recognized Altamaha Federal Credit Union for its support of at the school.
In the past, the credit union has provided monogrammed bookbags with supplies for new teachers, lunch for staff members during teacher appreciation week and support for students during Red Ribbon Week by participating in "Trunk or Treat."
This year, Altamaha Federal has gone farther by also donating $4,160 to help buy playground equipment.
Principal Sandy Jones said, "We want to extend many thanks to this wonderful business partner for continued support of students and staff in Long County."
In addition, the school also acknowledged a $500 donation from Harter Recycling Center on behalf of the owner's grandson, Hagen Harter, a first grader at Smiley. It will also be used for the playground installation.
Smiley now has more than 800 K-third students.
