Schools welcome new teachers

The Liberty County School System hosted a two-day orientation for new teachers at the board office last week.
It began Wednesday with a catered breakfast sponsored by The Coastal Bank. American Fidelity sponsored a lunch and The Heritage Bank sponsored breakfast Thursday.
Vendors were available to hand out company information and giveaways. Businesses and orgnaizations that participated were American Fidelity, First Citizens Bank, GeoVista Credit Union, Georgia Association of Educators, Graddy and Associates, Liberty County Chamber of Commerce, Professional Association of Georgia Educators, Caparelli Wealth Management, the Coastal Courier, The Heritage Bank, ValuTeachers, Wachovia, The Coastal Bank, Mass Mutual, Shaw Hankins, Met Life, VIP Office Supply, and Liberty County YMCA.  
Superintendent Dr. Judy Scherer welcomed the teachers, offering encouragement and stressing the importance of community and working together. School Board Chairwoman Lily Baker spoke to inspire the group and get them excited about the upcoming school year.
“Welcome to the best school system in the whole world where you will be teaching the best children in the whole world,” she said.
Teachers were introduced to principals and department directors. Various topics were covered during the orientation, including employment documents, policies and procedures, code of ethics, safety procedures, new teacher mentoring, payroll information, and technology overviews.
