State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox will speak at the next Liberty County Chamber of Commerce Progress Through People Luncheon on Thursday, Sept. 17.
It will begin at 11:30 a.m. and is sponsored by the Liberty County Health Department. It will be at the Liberty County Board of Education Transportation Complex on Airport Road. The food will be prepared and served by the Bradwell Institute culinary arts students.
Last September, Cox made national headlines by becoming the first contestant to win $1 million on Fox’s "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?"  She used the money to create the “Go For It! Foundation” to support students at Georgia’s three state schools for the deaf. The superintendent will also visit several local schools during her visit in Liberty County.
The luncheon will feature a presentation by Bradwell Institute students to remember the importance of Constitution Day, as well as creative tablescapes designed by Liberty County students.
RSVPs for the luncheon will be accepted through Tuesday, Sept. 15. The luncheon costs $15 for chamber members and $20 for others and seats can be reserved by calling 368-4445 or emailing debbie@libertycounty.org.
