Representatives from the Liberty County Manufacturing Collaboration recently completed interviews for the manufacturing apprenticeship available to recent high-school graduates who completed Savannah Technical College’s certified manufacturing specialist program at Liberty College and Career Academy.

The goal of LCMC — composed of Elan Technologies, Alcoa, Interstate Paper and SNF Holding Co. — is to promote manufacturing careers among graduates of Liberty College and Career Academy and to provide meaningful, full-time employment for local youth who are interested in staying in their community and completing an associates degree.

Apprentices rotate through the four companies during the two-year program, working part-time while also pursuing an associate degree from Savannah Technical College.

Currently, there are seven apprentices working among the four companies: Jordan Benjamin, Sharlissa Swift, Cody Rayburn, Kayla Edwards, Dominic Estis, La’Kie Smith and Victoria Smith. Following completion of the two-year program, successful apprentices may be eligible for permanent employment with these companies.
