Charity Crowell was selected to attend a program this summer at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
She was one of 16 students chosen from hundreds of applicants from across the state for the May 30-July 17 program. Students were selected through an application process that included a written essay describing why they want to major in the field of medicine.
In addition, Crowell had to attach teacher recommendations, copies of outstanding grades, and evidence of community involvement.
“Prior to this experience, I was undecided between medicine and engineering,” Crowell said. “The summer program definitely solidified my decision to pursue Medicine.”
While there, Crowell earned college credit on a biology course. In addition she studied chemistry, communications, had lab courses and volunteered in a hospital.
Crowell will be a senior at Liberty County High School this year and is the daughter of Mavis Crowell.
