Snelson-Golden Middle School and Joseph Martin Elementary School were both under lockdown for a short time Wednesday morning after a nearby resident reported a suspicious person in the area.

A resident near Lakeview Drive reported to Hinesville Police Department that a man walking around the neighborhood was carrying something that resembled a gun case, according to HPD Maj. Julian Hodges.

Hodges said around 11:45 a.m. that while the police were not able to locate the suspicious person, the information they gathered did not indicate that the person was up to any type of illegal activity.

He confirmed that the schools had been placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure, but said nothing had come of the incident.
