Taylors Creek Elementary School celebrated Black History Month in a big way this year.
At the beginning of the year, an African-American History Committee was designated to plan activities and educational projects for the month of February. The committee had a huge buffet luncheon for all Taylors Creek staff members, complete with music, balloons and even cheesecake. Staff members each brought in a favorite dish and shared their food and fellowship with one another.
In addition to daily trivia questions read over the intercom, students created art work that lined the school's halls, had learning activities in individual classrooms and participated in a school-wide assembly on Feb. 29.
The program featured a choir made up of Taylors Creek teachers singing some old African folk tunes and spirituals. Several other staff members performed an expressive dance.
