ATHENS – The University of Georgia Foundation recently announced an appropriation of $750,000 to the University of Georgia for scholarship support. The funding, which will be used by university administration and the Office of Admissions to meet critical scholarship needs, was unanimously approved by the foundation’s board of trustees at its recent fall meeting.

“Of all the ways through which the foundation supports the University of Georgia and its students, the provision of scholarship funding has important and tangible benefits,” said Bill Young, Jr., chairman of the University of Georgia Foundation board of trustees. “This funding will provide additional support for a wide range of scholarship programs and more importantly will help make attending UGA a reality for some deserving students who might not otherwise be able to attend.”

During the foundation’s fall meeting, trustees worked to focus their efforts on supporting and enhancing the university’s academic mission.  To that end, they identified an area where a new appropriation would offer the greatest immediate benefit to the university and its students.

“I am grateful to the foundation for this gift and for their continued support, and to the donors who make it possible for us to bring the best and brightest to Athens year in and year out,” said UGA President Michael F. Adams.

“The committee meetings and the full board session that we held last week were extremely productive and have set the tone for a very bright future,” Young added.  “There was a great sense of camaraderie among the administration and trustees, which will serve us well as we work to further advance the University of Georgia’s standing as one of the nation’s premier academic institutions.”

The University of Georgia Foundation’s next board meeting is scheduled for Feb. 16-17 in Athens.
