Extras still needed for Tyler Perry film
Movie

Tyler Perry’s new film “A Jazzman’s Blues” is still in need of extras as they prepare to film in Liberty County.

Casting Director Bill Marinella, needs extras as soon as next week for Tyler Perry’s new film. And more extras will be needed as filming begins for Tyler Perry’s new Netflix Series about vampires is set to start filming in the middle of May in Savannah.

“We are looking for all ages for both productions,” Marinella said. “It’s a great way to earn some extra money and get behind the scenes of how movies and major productions are made.”

Information also is available on Marinella’s Facebook page – Bill Marinella Casting in Savannah.

Filming for the productions will take place in Midway, Hinesville, Pooler, Ludowici and Savannah.

Extras for the Tyler Perry production will earn $200 per day. The Netflix series will pay at least $154 per day for an extra.

“One of the keys to be an extra is to be flexible with your schedule and we know it can be tough to take a day off from work,” he said. “But at $200 a day, that may get a few more people to make it worth their while to take a few days off. Plus, you get to be in a movie, which is a lot of fun.”

As a casting director, Marinella’s job is to find what are commonly known as extras that are seen in the background of most movies.

“I’m hired by a production company to find people who want an opportunity to be in the movies,” he said.

Polls open Tuesday for ESPLOST voting
Politics

Voting for the education special local option sales tax renewal will take place Tuesday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at precincts around the county.

The extension of the ESPLOST is the only issue on the ballot before voters. Several other counties also are conducting ESPLOST measures Tuesday.

The Liberty County School System has laid out a $112 million plan to be funded by ESPLOST proceeds, if it is passed.

Should ESPLOST VII be approved by Liberty County voters, the school system will use about $44 million of the money it provides from an extra penny on the sales tax for a new school.

Technology upgrades across the system are planned under ESPLOST, as are renovations to existing schools. The school system also intends to refresh its bus fleet with buying new buses.

Proceeds from ESPLOST cannot go toward such day-to-day operations as salaries or other compensation for school system employees.

There were 1,237 ballots cast in early voting, with 504 coming in the final week. The final day of early voting – March 14 – was the busiest, with 206 ballots cast. The current ESPLOST was passed in 2021 with 86% of the votes in favor of it.
